First Things First

May the words of my mouth
and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to You, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer. Psalm 19:14
If you claim to be religious (spiritual), but don't control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless.  James 1:26
Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them. Ephesians 4:29b
After having listened to the previous message about the importance of attitude in your journey to healing (for without a right attitude, we aren't connecting with God, but simply acting "religious" by going through the motions), you may have realized that you need to put "first things first." If you have tried repeatedly to change your attitude, but find yourself defaulting back to those old patterns, it may be that you are trying to change yourself through your own strength...
solely by self-discipline, mental effort and personal resolutions.

For genuine inner change to occur with your attitude, you need the Lord's strength and help. That will requiring you to ensure you truly do know Him, that you are His child, and that you have not simply substituted a form of religion or works for actually knowing Him personally.

To help ensure you understand the difference between religiosity and genuine relationship, the following should help. Then once you have made peace with Him and have become His child, He will be the One who gives you His strength as you work to overcome the entrenched attitudes and strongholds in your life.
