What is Dissociation
What is Dissociative Identity Disorder?

When someone experiences dissociation, it can be very disconcerting, both because it is so hard to explain to one's self or others, and because of the implications. Since dissociation is almost always the result of trauma at an early age, realizing that there is a name for what you experience, and the realization that there is likely a reason why you dissociate involuntarily can be anxiety producing in and of itself.  Is there are way to discover the extent to which you do dissociate? Fortunately, yes. It is called the DES II (Dissociative Experiences Scale).  If you are interested in taking the assessment, simply click the link and your will be taken to the Assessment, which is contained on an excellent site called www.TraumaDissociation.com

Switching On the Inside to Deal with the Pain
Watch for the unscripted moment when, suddenly, a part of Katie comes out to deal with the pain.  Given that the interviewer is unaware of her switching, he continues on, and the previous part of her must reemerge back into the painful feelings.  Additionally, notice how she describes her internal conflict in terms of wanting to be her true, authentic self, Katherine.
